Hi, my name is Beth Shifferd and I am the creator of BetsyBags, I am the mother of 4 great and energetic kids.  I’ve always had a passion to create.  My background has always included art in some shape or form.  When I was little, I loved to make the best cardboard, wallpapered and carpeted houses for my hairless Barbie’s.  Yes, I even dabbled in hairstyling, but had too many tragedies to seek a career in it.  Throughout school I was always involved in lots of art classes and did it in my spare time.  When I graduated from college, my parents gave me my first sewing machine.  I think my mom realized I was the last hope for one of her daughters to have the knack to sew (my 2 sisters are talented in many other areas though!).  I figured out how to make slipcovers, duvets and a lot more by trial and error.  Even when I found myself working as a Social Worker, I managed to find time to paint, sew and a lot more.  So, after I had my first baby I quit Social Work and continued to paint and sew (murals, home dec., make candles, design, landscape, etc…) when the opportunity arose.

A bit ago, my sister gave me a handmade bag and thought I should explore being a consultant for that company.  After looking into it and being fascinated with my new bag, I decided that I wanted to create bags of my own.  I began to design patterns, make the bags and then send them off with friends to test them out and asked for honest feedback.  After a few revisions of design and products, a final high quality, durable and very unique bag was developed.  I also decided that having people custom select fabrics for the bag was a lot more fun and personal.  So, BetsyBags was born.
